A Closer Look at the Cutera® Enlighten™ Laser

A Closer Look at the Cutera® Enlighten™ Laser

You might be asking yourself, “why should I use the Cutera® Enlighten™ laser when there are so many other lasers on the market to choose?” You’re right to explore your options, and at Dream Tattoo Removal we want to break down the Cutera® Enlighten™ laser so you can understand the distinct benefits that go along with getting your tattoo removal procedure done with cutting edge technology.

Studies have shown that more than one in four adults have a tattoo, which is up over five percent from 2014. In a separate study, it was found that one in four (out of roughly 1,000 tattooed people) were unsatisfied with their tattoo or were experiencing tattoo remorse or regret. That can be for a number of reasons. Could be a lifestyle change. Could be a change in mentality towards tattoos and body art in general. Could even be in order to make room for a new tattoo.

However, more and more people are exploring their options. When they do, they discover that different specialists feature different lasers. It can be confusing as to which one to go with.

When choosing which specialist to use, you want to go with someone who is compassionate and experienced, with a long track record of satisfied patients and clients, a high success rate with removing similar tattoos like yours. It’s not unfair to ask to see some before and after photos.

When choosing which laser you’d like to be treated with, you want something that is powerful and delivers a high-concentrated frequency, something that can cover a concentrated surface area, or a wide surface area, when applicable.

In comes the Cutera® Enlighten™ laser, an exciting piece of cutting edge technology that can reduce and eliminate unwanted tattoos. Dream tattoo removal is the first establishment in MA using this sophisticated laser technology and relieving people from tattoos they’ve either grown out of or no longer desire.

The Cutera® Enlighten™ is the world’s very first dual wavelength and dual pulse duration laser system. A focused, 1064nm + 532nm dual wavelength is delivered to the area of the skin that has been affected by your tattoo at 750 picosecond + 2 nanosecond pulse bursts in order to break up pigment and color. Your body will absorb and process the pigment by its own natural processes. The Enlighten™ offers benchmark setting power and precision, treating at an incomparable depth, making it more effective than any other laser on the market.

The 532nm wavelength is better suited for red, orange, and many variations of yellow and browns, while the 1064nm wavelength is clearly suited for black inks and darker-shaded colors. Cutera® Enlighten™ technology covers the entire spectrum, the entire color palette. It doesn’t matter how creative your tattoo artist got, Dream Tattoo Removal is confident the Cutera® Enlighten™ can remove your tattoo.

Old Methods of Tattoo Removal

Old Methods of Tattoo Removal

Practitioners use a variety of lasers to achieve differing results when it comes to tattoo removal and the removal or treatment of certain skin conditions. Dream Tattoo Removal incorporates the Cutera® Enlighten™ laser, which is a state of the art technology to help successfully remove unwanted tattoos with precision and power. But we’d like to take a closer look at the technology that was previously used in order to educate our patients and clients, so they can make the most informed choices for themselves. Also, we’d like to let them know how lucky they are to live in a time when they can get their tattoos removed by laser technology.

Tattoo removal has come a long way throughout history. There’s a reason why people used to think of tattoos as something that stayed with you for life. It’s because the methods for getting rid of them were so painful, left such gnarly scars, that people would rather live with the tattoo then go through with removing it. Here are some of those previous methods that were popular before the advent of laser tattoo removal apparatuses:

  • Dermabrasion — this process involves sloughing away the top layers of your skin to remove the pigment as well as the skin affected by your tattoo, which encourages new skin to grow. A local anesthetic is generally necessary, as opposed to the non-surgical, non-invasive technology incorporated by our Cutera® lasers. Problems with dermabrasion include excessive scarring, even resulting in keloids, or raised scars. Pain and skin discoloration can also result.
  • TCA (trichloroacetic acid) — also referred to as “chemical peels”. TCA is an acid that eats away the top layer of your skin, attempting to reach the deepest layer of the tattoo. TCA is generally applied to the skin for ten excruciating minutes, then neutralized with frozen saline packs. Patients would also have to apply skin conditioners for up to a month before their treatment. Many times this method of tattoo removal proves ineffective, as TCA chemical peels are not able to penetrate deep enough into the skin to remove all pigment.
  • Salabrasion — scrubbing away at your skin with salt. This method is particularly antiquated. This procedure is also performed under local anesthetic.
  • Cryosurgery — “freezing” method of tattoo removal. Think “wart removal” here, because it’s basically the same thing. Liquid nitrogen is applied to your tattooed area. Then a specific light is applied to induce skin peeling. This way of tattoo removal has to be done over time, gradually, in a series of doctor’s visits. Bleeding is a common side effect, as well as blistering, edema (swelling caused by fluid retention) and pain. One common side effect is that patients who undergo cryosurgery are no longer able to grow hair in the region that has been treated.
  • Excision — cutting away large chunks of your skin. Once the area has been removed, your skin is then sutured together. None of this sounds very fun, does it? This process could only be effectively done with smaller tattoos. It may be an immediate form of tattoo removal, but it has an extremely high rate of scarring. A skin graft might even be needed for larger tattoos.

Dream Tattoo Removal incorporates cutting edge, minimally invasive laser tattoo removal technology. Most patients report feeling a “snapping” sensation, like a faint rubber band against their skin. Sounds a lot better than salabrasion and excision, right?

Cutera® Enlighten™ technology is the world’s first dual wavelength and dual pulse duration laser system, which boasts industry leading power, treatment depth, and precision. Reasons Why the Winter is the Best Time to Get a Tattoo

Reasons Why the Winter is the Best Time to Get a Tattoo

Dream Tattoo Removal doesn’t want to dampen the party. Contrary to what some might believe, we are actually fans of well-thought-out tattoos. The ones we’re not a fan of are the spur of the moment tattoos that people don’t think all the way through. Those are the tattoos that we end up treating with state of the art laser technology, removing unwanted tattoos in most cases completely.

But people have gotten tattoos since the beginning of time. Who are we to knock the time-honored tradition of getting that all-important ink done. Like we said, we love it when our patients and clients think things through, which is why we like to educate our people as much as possible, that way they are making the most informed decision possible. So we’d like to take the opportunity to talk about the best time in the season to get a tattoo — the winter!

You wouldn’t think so, but it’s true. Most people think to get a tattoo during the warm spring and summer months, because they want to show it off at the beach or during other outdoor activities. You can’t really blame people for that. You don’t see many people getting tattoos not to show them off.

First off, it’s better to get your ink done in the winter months because your tattoo artist’s seat probably sees a bit of a decline during the winter months, as most parlors see a decline in sales, by and large.

Although the gratification and personal gains as far as getting that tattoo in the summer months are great, the health benefits certainly are not. Your tattoo is basically an open wound, so exposure to pollutants or environmental elements can have a counterproductive effect on your healing process.

The sun is also a tremendous nuisance to your tattoo. Harmful UV rays can have an adverse effect on the ink and cause it to fade prematurely. During the healing stage, your tattoo is particularly vulnerable to rapid fading.

You’ll also likely sweat in the spring and summer months, without even engaging in rigorous activity. When your wound stays moist, it can be fertile ground for harmful bacteria. Exposure to dust and dirt is nearly inevitable as well.

The benefits of getting a tattoo during the winter months are many. You’ll keep the area covered, keep your tattoo covered from the elements, allowing it to heal in the best way possible. You won’t have to worry about sweat and the cool air will provide pain relief as well. The cool, dry air is believed to be better for your tattoo as well, promoting healthy and more rapid healing. If your tattoo is properly covered in those awkward, early healing stages, you won’t have to worry about discomfort, allowing your tattoo the opportunity to heal properly.

You’re also not making much of a sacrifice. If you get a tattoo during the summer months, it would be wise to stay out of the sun, which can be downright torture to those of us who like to get our beach on. But during the winter, you’re not giving up anything — unless you live in one of those “beach life year-round” cities. You can cozy up, watch Netflix, and give your body the space it needs to heal properly.

If you have any other questions about tattoos, then don’t look at us. Look at your tattoo artist. But, if you have gotten a tattoo that you’re not so fond of anymore, or maybe downright despise, Dream Tattoo Removal offers state of the art laser tattoo removal in Brookline and Canton, MA. Call today to schedule your initial consultation and we’ll show you how laser tattoo removal can benefit you.

The Importance of Choosing a Reputable Practice

The Importance of Choosing a Reputable Practice

If you have decided that the tattoo you have no longer fits your needs and you are ready to get it removed, the first step and the most important will be choosing a place to get your laser treatments. This step in the process is crucial for your safety and will ensure you receive proper treatment and care. Finding the right place will ultimately determine the outcome of the treatment.

Safety and experience are very important factors when choosing a place that offers laser treatments. You want to choose a practice that has a well-known medical director, and a staff with great credentials. Despite the Queensland radiation safety act, which requires all operators to obtain a safety certificate, many laser centers still do not require technicians to have a safety certificate or medical training. In some states (including Massachusetts) they only require a one week laser training course to perform treatments.

At Dream Spa Medical we strive to be the best. Our medical director/co-owner Dr. Joseph A. Russo is a Harvard trained plastic surgeon, and holds a reputation as a top surgeon in the Boston area. At Dream Spa Medical only highly skilled and properly trained clinicians with experience are allowed to perform all the treatments. The staff is made up of registered nurses, and medical aestheticians with the laser certificates. This is done to ensure exceptional patient care and safety. The Dream team is highly trained on contraindications (external factors that may put you at risk) post care, wound care and most importantly medical grade sanitation. The removal sight is at risk for infection, and if something did occur (picking or scratching a blister, or not keeping the area clean) we offer medical care and can prescribe medication at no charge. Not all places can offer that level of safety to the patient.

The last factor to consider when choosing a place for your tattoo removal is the laser equipment itself. You want to make sure you are going to a place that has the latest technology. The newer technology (pico second technology) is much more effective for all colors of ink, and reduces the risk of scaring. With the older lasers you may need upwards of 15 treatments, all those treatments can put you at risk for other side effects including, hyper and hypopigmentation. At Dream Tattoo Removal, we have the newest and most powerful laser on the market Enlighten by Cutrea. It has pico second technology and delivers great results, safely with fewer treatments.

Hopefully now that you have some general knowledge, it will help you choose a reputable practice. Again, a place that has a well-respected medical director, qualified practitioners and has the newest technology. This advice will give you the best opportunity to achieve the results you are looking for safely.

Why We Believe We Have the Best Laser on the Market

Why We Believe We Have the Best Laser on the Market

One word, Enlighten. The powerful new laser system by Cutera has changed the science of tattoo removal. This laser uses the most advanced technology to remove tattoo ink with fewer treatments. What makes Enlighten the best? It is the dual nano/pico technology and the pico second speed that can target the lighter ink as well as the colored ink. Many patients come for treatments using the Enlighten because they have had as many as 15 sessions with other lasers and still have not achieved the results they expected.

Not only is this very frustrating for the patient, the process is very time consuming and expensive and in some cases, very painful. This situation is common because traditional lasers do not have the power to target that faded colored ink. The Enlighten has advanced the process of de-inking. This technology was created to safely and effectively target that ink, as well as blast away regular ink much faster.

So, if you are left with a faded tattoo or you simply have tattoo regret, fortunately we have the solution. Enlighten laser system is the best on the market and will finally make that unforgettable tattoo forgotten.
