You probably have some questions about tattoo removal before your first procedure. You may even have questions after a session. In an effort to make sure every patient is informed and confident, we’ve taken some time to answer a few of the most common questions we hear.
If you don’t see your question listed here, please don’t hesitate to ask. We are always happy to help.
What areas can tattoo removal be done?
Anywhere you can put a tattoo, we can remove it. Some places are trickier than others, but we can treat everything.
I tried tattoo removal before but it didn’t work well. Will I have issues with this system?
While everyone is different and treatment times can vary, there is no reason previous treatment will prevent you from working with Dream Tattoo Removal MD. Our system works on many different tattoo colors, and advanced technology allows us to cut the length of time of a procedure to a comfortable period of only 20 minutes at most.
Is it safe for me?
The Enlighten laser platform is safe to use on all skin types, making it safe for everyone to get laser tattoo removal.
Why should I use a laser to remove my tattoo?
While there are other methods, many of them do not work as well, or at all. Creams and lotions are usually ineffective. More intense procedures like dermabrasion and excision can leave unsightly scars that look worse than the tattoo ever did. Laser removal has minimal scarring and is a non-invasive procedure.
How long does tattoo removal take?
During your consultation, a customized plan will be created, telling you exactly what your treatment path will look like. In general, a single laser procedure should take between 5 and 20 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. Most patients will enjoy full clearance in as little as 5 sessions, and each session must be spaced at least 6-8 weeks apart.
Doesn’t tattoo removal hurt a lot?
If you can stand to get a tattoo, you can stand the removal process too. While older lasers used to be extremely difficult to tolerate, newer technology makes it much more comfortable.
At Dream Tattoo Removal MD, we offer anesthetic injections to make sure you feel no pain at all during your treatment.
What is this white stuff on my tattoo?
Immediately after treatment, you may notice a layer of white on top of your tattoo. This is called “frosting,” and occurs due to the release of nitrogen during the treatment. It is nothing to worry about and will disappear shortly.
Are there colors that will not be removed?
While the sophisticated technology of the Enlighten laser allows us to remove more colors than ever before, there are some pigments that do not react as well to treatment. We will discuss the likelihood of a complete clearance during your consultation.
What do I do now?
You will be given a set of instructions to help the treatment area heal well. It is important to avoid sun exposure in this area, as your skin will be much more sensitive and this can cause the tattoo to scar or cause other problems.
I decided I don’t want to remove it all the way, just enough to alter it. Can I?
Yes! Tattoo removal techniques can be used to lighten tattoos as well.
